Okay I am so excited to share this hack with you guys…don’t worry its totally legit.
I love love love coffee, and I spend way too much on my Starbucks and Dunkin coffee runs everyday.
I love coffee so much that when I was a teenager I got a job at Starbucks and learned all the ins and outs of being a barista.
After looking more into my budget and spending habits, I realized I could save so much money by actually going grocery shopping and eating at home instead of eating out.
My biggest issue is I will go to the grocery store and spend like $50 and think thats a lot. Meanwhile that will last me like two weeks where as when i eat out its ten dollars a meal, one to two times a day, plus my necessary coffee…Im sending $50 bucks in two days!
With some simple math I realized how much I could be saving on food and coffee and the number was astounding.
I recently posted how I save $600 a month just by meal planning and eating at home, but I didn’t really touch on the coffee aspect of it.
My coffee at Starbucks is normally between $3 and $5 depending on what I get and the size…I drink about two to three cups a day. Thats $9 to $15 a day I could be saving… $40 to $75 a week! (I could pay my phone bill with that!)
So now that you know how to save money meal planning, lets learn how to save money by making coffee shop level coffee at home!
#1 Get a coffee maker…
I got a small, 5 cup coffee maker from Walmart for…get this… $5! Thats right, I got a coffee maker that will make me numerous cups of coffee for the price of one Starbucks coffee.
#2 Be your own Barista!
This one is super fun. When you go to Starbucks and get a Vanilla latte…you’re paying for milk, espresso and syrup…We can so make that at home. You can get vanilla syrup at Bed Bath &Beyond, many grocery stores, and my personal favorite, TJMaxx!
Having the syrup at your fingertips makes it so much easier to customize your coffee.
I’ll let you in on a secret…a Starbucks Tall coffee has 2 pumps of syrup, Grande has 3, and Venti has 4 pumps.
#3 Buy in Bulk
I stumbled upon prepackaged Starbucks Almond milk Mocha Latte at my local grocery store…there are about 3 servings for $4.99! I decided to try it and let me tell you it tasted AMAZING! I had a cup every morning with my breakfast and it lasted me three servings but you could definitely get 4 or 5 cups if you use smaller portions. They also had tons of otherflavors and types of coffee as well…its worth checking it out!
This post is going up Wednesday and after just three days of tracking my spending I have saved over $50 on coffee THIS WEEK… I AM SHOOK.
This put in perspective just how much money I waste on things I can do myself…I am kicking myself for not thinking of this sooner.
No lines, no wait, made perfectly your way…make your coffee at home and if you want to take it one step further…put the money you’d spend on coffee everyday away in your savings account and watch just how fast it grows!
